Meeting Disney Characters

Meeting Disney Characters at the Parks is Memorable

Have you seen Mickey?

Even decades ago, meeting Disney characters at Disney Parks made special unforgettable memories. This colorful vintage 1970s souvenir postcard from a Disneyland trip came into our hands recently. The front of the card features a photo of a favorite Disney Character Pluto posing in front of the iconic Matterhorn Mountain. On the back of the card there’s a question- “Have you seen Mickey?” It continues to say, “Pluto lopes about in search of his lifelong companions Mickey and Goofy…a truly hilarious trio for guests to meet…in Disneyland.”

Vintage Mid-1970s Postcard of Pluto at Disneyland shows how favorite Disney Characters roamed around the park greeting guests.

Meeting Mickey Mouse and his pals is one reason people love to visit Disney Parks. Photo memories of meeting Disney Characters are priceless. But finding your favorite character loping around is not as simple as it once was. So what is the best way to seek and find a favorite Disney friend?

A Bit of Disney Character Sighting History

On our first trip to Walt Disney World in the early 1990s, I had one important goal, I wanted to meet the Disney characters I had been watching on TV since I was a kid. At this time, characters did still roam the parks and there were several more obscure ones out and about that week. We came across Brer Fox near the Splash Mountain, Prince John from Robin Hood and even Roger Rabbit. There were also the classic characters Tigger and Pluto roaming around. But even decades ago, we had to find Mickey inside his “dressing room” after a long wait in a queue. We did get close to others at Magic Kingdom parade where costumed characters would walk along off the float and interact with guests at that time.

By our next trip in 2000, Character Meet and Greets were more organized though a few could be found as walk ups here and there. Gone were characters walking in parades for the most part so waiting in line was the norm.

Disney Characters – The Celebrity Ambassadors for Disney Parks

People actually plan their days around meeting Disney characters at the parks and spending a few minutes with Winnie the Pooh, Minnie Mouse or even Jack Sparrow. Sometimes a visit will have to be to a specific park, dinner or at an event for a rare sighting like all 7 dwarfs together in one place.

Remember a visit to a Disney Park is all about making memories. Disney character meet and greets add to the fun and will be talked about long into the future. So, keep your eyes open and cameras ready on your next Disney Adventure.
