Disney World in October is Awesome

Should one plan to visit Disney World in October? I will be honest here. Of all our trips to Orlando, only a few have not been in October, so our family is slightly biased. But we believe October is the best time to visit Disney World, and not just because of the Not So Scary Halloween Party either. Let’s explore some of the compelling reasons we chose fall as our favorite time to visit this Disney Park.

On occasion, we did travel in other months, but nothing compared to Disney World in October. Once we squeezed in an end-of-summer trip in late August, and it was oppressively hot for travelers from a northern state. On another visit, we tried a trip in March, and like when Goldilocks found Mama Bear’s porridge, Orlando, Florida, was a tad too cold! So, we chose to stick with the time of year when our family thought the temperature was perfect, October. It’s an awesome time to visit our favorite vacation destination!

Our Top Six Reasons to Visit Disney World in October:
  1. Less Crowded—Many children across the US are already back in school, so the parks are not as crowded as in the summertime or near the holidays.
  2. Great Discounts—Take advantage of special promotions like the FREE Disney Dining Plan. Keep in mind, though, that weekends in late October and Halloween are very popular Not So Scary party nights, so there will be few discounts. If you are budget-conscious, early to mid-October is your best bet.
  3. Not as Hot and Humid—Sure, there will be days approaching 90+, but most of the weather is in the 80s. It’s the perfect time of year to visit Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach, but not so hot that families cannot enjoy a full day at a water park.
  4. Dining Options—It’s easier to obtain those must-have dining reservations. Just be certain to set them up as soon as possible through the Disney app to ensure access to all your favorite restaurants.
  5. Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival—This event is a fall favorite with a number of unique small plates of international cuisine to sample throughout the park. So many unique tastes to sample and enjoy while strolling around the World Showcase Lagoon.
  6. Decor—Festive spooktacular decorations abound as it is the season of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. This hard ticket event takes place from September through Halloween on specific nights at the Magic Kingdom. However, quite a few of the themed party decorations are actually displayed in the park throughout the fall season.

Hurricane Risk ~ Disney World in October

The months with the highest risk of a Florida hurricane are August, September, and October. Because of this, there are fewer crowds, better discounts, and special events. So, plan accordingly and be vigilant. We have always opted for travelers’ insurance to cover us for weather and/or illness. In our opinion, the risk of a hurricane is a trade-off for the beautiful fall weather at Disney World in October.
