Disney World in October? Tips for Spooky Fun!
Is your family planning to vacation at Disney World in October? What a wonderful decision. Disney World vacations in the fall, especially in October, are the perfect option for many travelers. Let’s explore several reasons why our family loves to spend fall days in the Orlando parks.
Of all our trips to Walt Disney World, only a few have not been in the fall, so our family is slightly biased. But we believe October is the best time to visit the Florida park, and not just because of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party either. Let’s explore some of the other compelling reasons we chose October as our favorite time to visit this Disney Park.

Our Top Reasons to Visit Disney World in October:
- Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party—First and foremost, Mickey himself is hosting the most awesome party of the year! The party allows kids young and old to experience Halloween.
- Less Crowded—Many children across the US are already back in school during the fall. Thus, Disney Parks are not as crowded as in the summertime or near the Christmas holidays.
- Great Discounts—Take advantage of special promotions like the FREE Disney Dining Plan. Keep in mind, though, that weekends in late October and Halloween night are very popular due to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, so there will be few weekend discounts. If you are budget-conscious, early to mid-October or even September is your best bet.
- Not as Hot and Humid—Sure, some days temperatures could be well into the 90s, but not all. Most of the fall days at Disney World will be in the 80s.
- Dining Options—It’s easier to obtain those must-have dining reservations. However, set them up as soon as possible through the Disney app to ensure access to all your favorite restaurants.
- Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival—A favorite event with unique small servings of international cuisine throughout the park. So many unique tastes to sample while strolling around the World Showcase Lagoon.
- Decor—Festive spooktacular decorations abound as it is the season of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. This hard ticket event takes place from September through Halloween on specific nights at the Magic Kingdom. However, quite a few of the themed party decorations are actually displayed in the park throughout the fall season.
On occasion, we did travel in other months, but nothing compared to Disney World in October. Once, we squeezed in an end-of-summer trip in late August, before school started. Unfortunately, it was oppressively hot for travelers from a northern state. On another visit, we tried a trip early in March. But, just like when Goldilocks found Mama Bear’s porridge a bit on the chilly side, Orlando, Florida, gave off some serious sweater weather vibes! So, we choose to stick with the time of year when our family thinks the temperature is perfect and Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is in full swing. October is an awesome time to visit our favorite vacation destination!

The most widely known fall event at Disney World is the hugely popular Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. It is a hard-ticketed special event running several nights a week at Magic Kingdom. But Epcot’s International Food and Wine Festival is also a big draw to the parks. This event runs daily, featuring small portions and beverages from a wide range of international cuisines. It doesn’t require a special ticket like the Halloween party but is still a very busy event.
Is Disney World in crowded in October?
Compared to summer months, spring breaks, and holidays, October is less crowded at Disney Parks. Most kids are in school during this time of year, which reduces traffic. Keep in mind that October is still hurricane season, so travelers need to stay alert for any tropical storms and potential hurricanes.
The weather is warm enough to enjoy pools and water parks during the day but can get chilly at night. We always pack jackets or sweatshirts if we plan to stay to watch the fireworks or Fantasmic.
Nana T Tip: Investing in travelers’ insurance when traveling to Florida in the fall is a good strategy. This will limit financial losses should a hurricane travel, causing delays or park closures.
